Why Keeping a Gratitude Journal is Helpful

Traditionally, the last two months of the year are those during which we begin to reflect on the events that have transpired during the year that will soon come to a close. Thanksgiving is just a few short weeks away, and families that are fortunate enough to be able to come together for dinner will, more than likely, ask those at the table to answer a simple question: “for what are you grateful?” The answer might seem trivial or profound to those who hear it, but for each of us, gratitude is very personal.

Why Wait for Thanksgiving?

Just as you attend to your health regime on a daily basis, you shower, brush your teeth, clean your tongue with your TUNG Brush and Gel and pay attention to your nutrition, wouldn’t it be nice to consider those things for which you are grateful more than once a year? Thinking about giving thanks, about the good things that happen to you and your family and friends, can have tremendously strong benefits to your mental health and overall well-being! And keeping a gratitude journal is a great way to keep track of those important thoughts.

Why is Gratitude Healthy?

If you focus on things for which you are thankful, it can reverse the impact that negativity can have on your mental and physical health. Whether it is being grateful that you didn’t miss the train in the morning, that you finished an assignment on time or that you received a good report from the doctor, it is important that you recognize the little and big things in your daily life that have made that day better.

And it is equally important to acknowledge something that has been not-so-great and try to find some good in it – it’s kind of a glass half-full or half-empty approach to daily living. Being grateful will also put perspective on what is truly important and not the “small stuff” that is just part of our day-to-day lives.

Why Write it Down?

By maintaining the discipline of keeping a journal, and by entering your thoughts before bedtime each night, you will find that you will release stressors and relax. You will document your own personal journey each day, and even it you only write down one simple sentence, you will, without external pressures or judgments, find relief before your head hits the pillow. You may find you skip a day – that’s ok…this is YOUR journal, so you have to find your own system. But one thing for sure, it will also provide a source of comfort for you on those days when you may feel you are down – go back, read about some of the things that made you thankful and smile. Writing down your thoughts will be a tangible way to go back in time without counting on your memory.

The first entry in our TUNG Brush and Gel team journal? We are thankful for all of you. Now it’s your turn – go ahead and get started, and happy journaling 😊
